For over a century, Andhra Pradesh Library Association (formerly Andhra Desa Grantha Bhandara Sangham) has worked relentlessly to promote literacy, libraries, and the cultural heritage of Telugu people. Our mission and vision reflect a roadmap for an enlightened, educated society.
Our Mission
To work for the progress of:
- The Library Movement – nationwide outreach & empowerment
- Adult Education – lifelong learning for all age groups
- Language and Culture of Telugus – preserving linguistic heritage
Key objectives:
- Establish and maintain libraries, reading rooms, adult education centers, cultural associations.
- Propagate knowledge and create social awareness by fusing all available resources.
- Promote library movement through public meetings, tours, exhibitions, and cultural programmes.
- Train librarians and volunteers for social service & adult education; maintain a register of trained persons.
- Work for proper enforcement of Andhra Pradesh Public Libraries Act and instill love for reading.
- Organize competitions to propagate Andhra culture & Library Science; award prizes.
- Prepare bibliographies and catalogues to aid research scholars.
- Raise and utilize funds for the above programmes.
- Maintain relations with associations/individuals sharing similar ideology.
- Establish branches at Regional, District, Town levels for efficient decentralisation.
- Organize an Information bureau with reference books and technical equipment for those in need.
